AL-FARABI’S PERSPECTIVES ON THE GOALS OF ISLAMIC EDUCATION

Read carefully the following passages
In fact, education is one of the most important social phenomena in al-Farabi's philosophical system. It is concerned with the human soul and makes sure that the individual is prepared from an early age to become a member of society, to achieve his own level of perfection, and thus to reach the goal for which he was created. However, while it is true that there are no writings specifically devoted to education in al-Farabi's books, anyone who follows his writings with care will come upon various texts scattered here and there containing clear educational elements corresponding to his overall philosophical views, which incline to integrate separate concepts and thoughts into a ‘unified world view'.
Indeed, the whole activity of education, in al-Farabi's view, can be summed up as the acquisition of values, knowledge and practical skills by the individual, within a particular period and a particular culture. The goal of education is to lead the individual to perfection since the human being was created for this purpose, and the goal of humanity's existence in this world is to attain happiness, which is the highest perfection—the absolute good.
The perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil), thought al-Farabi, is the one who has obtained theoretical virtue—thus completing his intellectual knowledge—and has acquired practical moral virtues—thus becoming perfect in his moral behaviour. Then, crowning these theoretical and moral virtues with effective power, they are anchored in the souls of individual members of the community when they assume the responsibility of political leadership, thus becoming role models for other people. Al-Farabi unites moral and aesthetic values: good is beautiful, and beauty is good; the beautiful is that which is valued by the intelligentsia. So this perfection which he expects from education combines knowledge and virtuous behavior; it is happiness and goodness at one and the same time.
Al-Farabi used a large number of technical terms to describe this concept: discipline (ta'dib), correction/assessment (taqwim), training (tahdhib), guidance (tasdid), instruction (ta'lim), exercise or learning (irtiyad), and upbringing or education (tarbiya). Good manners or culture (adab), in his opinion, in their true educational meaning are the ‘combination of all the good qualities', while discipline is the ‘way of creating the moral virtues, and the practical arts in the nations'. Instruction (ta'lim) is ‘creating the speculative virtues in nations and cities'. Al-Farabi distinguishes between instruction (ta'lim) and discipline (ta'dib). The former is the way of acquiring a theoretical culture, and is mainly verbal. The latter form ethical conduct, and leads to technical or practical skills.

Report to UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century that education throughout life is based upon four pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. Explain your point of view, how UNESCO’s four pillars of education can reach perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil).  Are those pillars enough  or is there anything missing?

Education throughout life is based on four pillars: (1). Learning to know. (2). Learning to do. (3). Learningto live together. (4).Learning to be.
I will start on the first point (1). Learning to know: I think this basic right because everything is not necessarily so we know we have to learn until we know what is learned. (2). Learning to do, now that we know what consequences we will face in the knowledge that we already have then we can classificatet in our lives and we already know where the good and true. (3). Learning to live together, after we do for ourselves what we have achieved perfection when other people could feel the same way it is with us. (4). Learning to be, this is where we see the skills we learned coupled with inputs from the other then we will have a distinctive sense of satisfaction when we are able to apply these basic four.
I sorry if something wrong. Good luck and Minal Aidin Walfaisin.

For me, The four pillars of education , : learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be are enough to be perfect human on the grounds that the first goal the human learn something is start from asking questions such as : what is that/this?who is that/this? How is that/this?.it means..learning to know, human learn something to know what is it. Based on knowledge they begin to do something whether it is good or bad deeds it depends on how they interpret it .then they begin to think that they can not live alone but need to live with other people therefor they try to build social community to live together. After that they start thinking to be what they want such as some of them decide to be a president, and the other think to be businessmen, traders, and teachers. choice of different professions was the attitude of every people to determine their own way of life.that four stages are is a series of four pillars of education according to what was raised by UNESCO as a goal to reach perfect human being.

In my opinion these 4 pillars have been able to achieve the perfect man for Applying the pillars, it is hoped that ongoing education throughout the world including Indonesia could be better, but the problem is education in Indonesia which is currently still limited facilities, especially again in remote areas, yet the prevalence of educational facilities, will certainly be an obstacle for students to develop themselves, as the pillar of education at the first point above, "Learning to know", how students can increase knowledge as much as possible while the facilities are not adequate? How can they find additional reference science while all they can be very limited? Then, pointing to the second point, "Learning To Do", learn to work or apply the knowledge gained by students, here again the question arises, how students can work while their knowledge was minimal.

We can see, the pillars of education are indeed designed with a very good and with a very good goal too, but keep in mind, there are still many aspects of the barrier in the implementation of the pillars of education, teachers call it a lack of human resources that truly "qualified" , the difference in the mindset of each community or region in view of the importance of education, then again, FACILITIES, minimum facilities for some funds that do not exist or stop by the bag karuptor will greatly hinder the progress of teaching and learning, and other constraints.
One hopes we all, for education in Indonesia could be better, across Indonesia, including remote areas.

In order for the above objectives can be stated in the laws and regulations exactly, education must be realized as teaching, coaching and training (Teaching, Guiding and Training); Teaching to Provide Knowledge, Attitude and Embedding Guide to Coaching to Improve Skills. All this must be done continuously in the home, school and community life.

My point of view about Education throughout life is based upon four pillars. Before talking about it, should be know what is Learn and how to application it.Learn is the processes to make interesting and have a meaning. The first is Learning to know should be knowing about new information, basic knowledge understand, know and discover.Learning to know is one of activity to acquisition,to knowing and benefits for all things.Second, learning to do sometimes children have a critical thinking, logic, knowing much about something.so make it imagine whether true or false to doing something.Third, learning to live together,as a human being, need more activity even make a relations it's much better comparing alone. Then, learning to be, generally,,humanity of development start from birth until living alone is dialectic processes according to individualism ,especially knowledge(brain storming)even make a relation with others. In this case, learning to be must be implementation of personality human made.According to Bobby De Porter and Mike Hernacki(2002:54)there are 3 methods in Quantum Learning:Mind mapping,Speed reading,Super memory sytem.

My point of view about how UNESCO’s four pillars of education namely learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. Basically, these pillars education are enough to reach perfect human being.
In education, learning is process to know something that we never know before. So that, learning to know can be included in four pillars education. Learning is not only to know but also to apply. It means that we learn something to do something else which has benefit for our life.
Beside of those, we are human being; we need a good relationship with others. Because of it, we have to learn to live together with others. And also, we learn to be. Everyone has idea. Our ideas are different. By learning, we will reach what we want and be what we want also.

Many of us would agree about the perfection of human (al-insan al-kamil) can we derive from the implementation process of the four pillars of it.
in my point of view,if one of the four pillars are missing then we may be far from perfection which was mentioned by Al-Farabi.
By learning to know, we can prepare ourselves to receive all the shortcomings that we have, so then it's easier for us to carry out the implementation (How to do). until the time comes we are prepared to immerse themselves in the social life with the knowledge that we have. until later we can really learn how to feel a person needs in the community later.
nothing that I want to add from the four pillars because in my opinion, the four pillars has been perfect. hopefully useful

Learning is a process for human so that he can know something, do something. With UNESCO's four pillars of education man can achieve a perfect level. But according to what I read, there are several pillars of education in Indonesia:

~ Availability The first pillar is related to the availability of adequate educational services in accordance with the standards, both in the curriculum, sesumber, methods, strategies, etc.
~ The second pillar is Affordability. This pillar focuses on the principles of realization of the right to obtain education for all citizens without exception. To support this affordability needs to be supported by the use of various media and technology.
~ The third pillar is the Quality. Improving the quality of education now must make a major concern, not only of output and outcome but the process involves input and education.
~ The four pillars of Education Quality Assurance. Assuring the quality of education should be more done with a variety of studies and evaluation of factors affecting educational quality improvement.
~ Fifth Pillar is equality. Education should reach all levels of society with no distinctions. Indonesia is a large country with a variety of diversity, education must be able serve all citizens equally and without discriminating between the existence of such diversity.

    well,,,
my opinion of this article is that four pillars of education can reach perfect human being "Al-Insan Al-Kamil" because it encompassing all of human aspect, learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be.
Actually education takes place through life in many forms, none of which ought to be exclusive. we must start to think about education in a more all encompassing style. the four pillar also can not stand alone without all the four pillars education would not be the same. so each of four pillars has to support each other.

Efforts to improve the quality of a nation there is no other way except by improving the quality of education. Report from UNESCO launched the four pillars of education: (1) Learning to know, (2) learning to do (3) learning to be, and (4) learning to live together.

According to Dr. Yusuf Qaradawi the sense of Islamic education is education the whole person, mind and heart, spiritual and carnal, character and skill. Meanwhile, according to the formulation of Islamic Education Seminar in Indonesia in 1960, giving the sense of Islamic education as: "the guidance of spiritual and physical growth according to the teachings of Islam with wisdom to direct, teach, train, and take care of all Islamic teachings."

Based on some opinions above, there is such a strategic emphasis on values that are taught in education. In Islamic education, the values transferred from the sources of Islam that are the Qur'an and Sunnah. Thus, Islamic education is a process of both physical and spiritual guidance based on the teachings of Islam lead to the formation of the Muslim personality. It means that education in the pillars of UNESCO together with education in Islam. Nevertheless, I think there is something missing i.e. placing God as the great educator as Dr. M. Sayyid Ahmad Al-Musayyar quoting some verses of the Qur'an in Surah Luqman. He said there are three pillars according to Qur`an that Lukman taught to his children. The first, put down the basic foundations, trust that only one God (Allah). There is no education, moral, social interaction, and ethics without faith. If faith is straight, then straight also the aspect of life. The second, education is the pillars of education. He ordered his son to pray, take responsibility, amar ma'ruf nahi munkar, and advise to be patience. The last, social ethics. Luqman described it to his son with a ban on mischief/evil.

My opinion about the four pillars of education is enough. Due to the fourth, had entered all aspects of the development of human knowledge. With the four pillars of education a person can get a real identity, so that they can develop their talents. Effort is done so that no more unemployment everywhere. For example in schools, the school must prepare adequate facilities for learning can be effective. Not only academically but also in the field of non-academic. So with the exercise of the four pillars of this, then education will increase. And most importantly, learn to know. Many people who learn just to get grades, not learning to learn. Without them knowing that they are wrong, why? Such knowledge is not stored in memory. So, learn to know.

But education in Indonesia now have not run it. especially in the villages. Learning facilities are still less why education has not been going well. Students can not work if the knowledge is still lacking due to inadequate facilities. Better educational facilities are provided. So that education will increase.

I think the four pillars is difficult enough but to implement "learning to know" (learning to learn), teachers must be able to place itself as a facilitator. In addition, teachers are required to play doubles as his dialogue for their students in order to develop students' mastery of knowledge.

Schools as learning communities seyogjanya container to facilitate students to actualize the skills possessed, as well as talent and interest for "Learning to do" (learn to do something) can be realized. Although the real talents and interests of children affected by hereditary factors, but growth and development of talents and interests are also dependent on the environment. As we all know that the skills are the means to sustain a person's life skills even more dominant than the mere acquisition of knowledge

UNESCO proclaimed the third pillar is "learning to be" (learning to become a person). Hali is closely related to their talents, interests, physical, psychological, personal typology of children and the environment. For example: for students who are aggressive, will find his true identity when given ample opportunity to be creative. And vice versa for students who are passive, the role of the teacher as a compass pointing at once to become a facilitator is needed to develop students' full potential and maximum.

The process of "learning to live together" (learn to live together), the fourth pillar, the habit of living together, mutual respect, open, giving and receiving need to be developed in school. Conditions like these that allow the growth of mutual understanding among racial, ethnic, and religious
To this end, education in Indonesia should be directed at improving the quality of intellectual and professional abilities and attitudes, personality and moral. With the ability and the attitude of Indonesian people so then in turn will make the people of Indonesia society of dignity in the eyes of the world community. I hope So. AMIN .....!!!!^ O ^

In my mind UNESCO is Learning to know: Mastery of a deep and broad to specific disciplines, including Learning to How, Learning to do: Learn how to apply science, working together as a team, learn to solve problems in various situations. Learning to be: learning to be independent, be the person responsible for realizing the common goal. Learning to live together: Learning memhami and appreciate other people, their history and values of his religion.
By applying these pillars, it is hoped that ongoing education throughout the world including Indonesia could be better, but the problem is education in Indonesia which is currently still limited facilities, especially in remote areas, yet the prevalence of educational facilities, will certainly be an obstacle for students to develop themselves, as the pillar of education at the first point above, "Learning to know", how students can increase knowledge as much as possible while the facilities would be adequate? Well,,,
Talking about alfarbi's perspektives that four pillar's of education throught life is based upon those pillar
    1. learning to know is a procees to know something and not only know about this, but also we need a work namely learning to do because to be perfect human being or Al-insan kamil we have to completing the intelectual knowledge.
and learning to live together is a learning procces in education that combines between knowledge and virtous behavior.
the last learning to be is a pupose of education
for example ; to be perfect human being or Al-insan kamil need to know procces to get and give good knowledge.

for me there is anything missing about this pillar's is LEARNING TO LEARN.

    I Think that's all

Actually, reported to UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century that education throughout life is based upon four pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be there is a missing way.

Learning to know that it is the basic proses knowledge from the human being to know something. Learning to do that what we have gotten from the input early, and to be perfect human or Al-insan kamil we have to complete from the intellectual knowledge and the basic input. Learning to live together, after we have done for ourselves what we have achieved perfection from the people so, we have to combine between early knowledge and virtuous behavior. Learning to be, this is the last prosess from the learning, here how the human to be, such as to be perfect human being or Al-insan kamil need to know the process to get and give good knowledge or wrong thinking to the true thinking.
Here, an education takes place through life in many forms, no one ought to be exclusive. we have to start to think about education in all aspect. So, each of four pillars has to support each other.
Over all, It is a miraculous quality of Islam and the Qur'an that in spite of being the ultimate religion it is also ever alive and fresh, capable of not only moving in step with the movement and growth of human societies and the development of culture and civilization, but also infused with the capacity to induce dynamism and movement.

according to me. it was actually four pillars of good and nothing needs to be reduced, but should be increased. Four pillars it actually has to make and achieve the perfect man for the four pillars was emphasized that learning to know the meaning of human learning to know something else that is new, then learn to do, humans will achieve the perfect man if they want to learn to do something that he knew, the same goes with the third and the fourth pillar. But in my opinion, there should be the fifth pillar of the learning to be responsible, meaning that humans if humans want to be more perfect human being should be able to learn to be responsible for something that is done and should be able to keep it all.
For example, if you want to be a teacher one must be able to do and know about the method to be a good teacher, then a teacher must also be able to learn to live together inside and outside an assigned neighborhood school to teach and learn to become a good teacher for their students and became an example among students and other teachers, and the latter learn to be responsible means a teacher must be able to account for any thing done because a teacher is an example for society and the environment.

Ok,,as we knw that that there are Four Pillars of Education proposed UNESCO ", the four pillars are:
    1.Learning to know
    2.Learning to do
    3.Learning to be
    4.Learning to live together
The fourth pillar is in fact sufficient in the world of education, but there are two pillars of the four pillars that are still difficult to apply in Indonesia. two pillars, which are "learning to know" and "learning to do".

First,,The nature of "learning to know" is the Mastery of a deep and broad field of science will be given. while the facilities available in Indonesia is very limited and inadequate. so how could the students can add their insight and knowledge while the limited facilities available.
Second,,the nature of "learning to do" is Learning to apply knowledge, work together as a team, and learn to work. But how can for students to work while his knowledge is very minimal.
So,here are still many aspects of the barrier in that implementation of the pillars of education.

Every body may agree to the four pillars of UNESCO to reach perfect human being. In my view,1) learning to know is Mastering or enlarge a certain knowledge, include Learning to How 2) learning to do is Learning to Applicate the knowledge or learn to solve a problem 3) learning to be is Learning life independently and responsible 4) learning to live together is Learning in a community to appreciate each others.
All the pillars above is very suit with the context to be applied. But UNESCO may forget to add the most important pilar that should be applied also “Learning the GOD”. I think this pillar is still not included frm the pillars above.

    Al-Farabi vs Unesco
My opinion in this case, if the intent al_faribi kesempernaan who are intellectually supported by the pious behavior was filled by the four pillars of learning from unisco namely: learning to know, learning to do, learn to live together and learn to be. Although in pemjabarannya needed a more direct explanation for the sentence pious behavior.
In khasus perfect man who has the intellectual, 3 of the pillars that already meet these criteria. Both in terms of learning to know, learning to do and learn to be. Indirectly these 3 aspects to meet the demands of the individual skills and will meet the perfect man to dikatan.
For the problem of godly behavior, It deals with the relationship between humans and the environment. Whether it's another human being, nature, and God. If that meant learning to live together Unesco will only cover two of the relationship between man and man, then the relationship between human beings with nature. While the pious man must also meet the coverage "Hablun MinAllah" which was untouched by the four pillars of UNESCO's education.

Next, if we can to do and create somethinggood, it included us in learning to live together. How to adjust to our society and of course it is the one of process of learning to be. UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for the twenty-first century stated that there are four pillars of education which become basis of lifelong education. They are learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. Those pillars are to be applied in human’s life for reaching perfect human being. For me, they are great basis and principles in improving human’s capability and capacity through education for being al-insan al-kamil.
Learning to know means that people have to learn to understand the world around them, at least as much as is necessary for them to lead their lives with some dignity, develop their occupational skills and communicate with other people. The broader our knowledge, the better we can understand the many different aspects of our environment. This encourages greater intellectual curiosity, sharpens the critical faculties and enables people to develop their own independent judgments on the world around them. From that point of view, all children - no matter where they live - must have a chance to receive an appropriate science education and become friends of science throughout their lives.

Learning to do means that people should adapt education so that it can equip people to do the types of work needed in the future. It emphasizes the knowledge component of tasks as well as the importance of services in the economy. Learning to do can no longer mean what it did when people were trained to perform a very specific physical task in a manufacturing process. Skill training therefore has to evolve and become more than just a means of imparting the knowledge needed to do a more or less routine job.

Learning to live together means that education should lead the human to avoid conflict among them and peacefully resolve it. Through education, people are taught the importance of living together peacefully and of minimizing any conflict that happens in their interaction among them in this world. To do such goal is that education should adopt two complementary approaches. From early childhood, it should focus on the discovery of other people in the first stage of education. In the second stage of education and in lifelong education, it should encourage involvement in common projects. This seems to be an effective way of avoiding conflict or resolving latent conflicts.

Learning to be means that education should contribute to every person's complete development - mind and body, intelligence, sensitivity, aesthetic appreciation and spirituality. All people should receive in their childhood and youth an education that helps them to develop their own independent, critical way of thinking and judgment so that they can make up their own minds on the best courses of action in the different circumstances in their lives. To do that, Both children and young persons should be offered every opportunity for aesthetic, artistic, scientific, cultural and social discovery and experimentation, which will complete the attractive presentation of the achievements of previous generations or their contemporaries in these fields. At school, art and poetry should take a much more important place than they are given in many countries by an education.

The conclusion would seem to be that the twenty-first century will need a varied range of talents and personalities who are equally essential in any society. So, people need to apply these four pillars of education to face the challenges in this world. By applying those, every people are expected to be perfect human being ( al-insan al-kamil) who will be leader (khalifah) in this world.

From that point of view, all children must have a chance to receive an appropriate science education and become friends of science throughout their lives. Learning to do means that people should adapt education so that it can equip people to do the types of work needed in the future. It emphasizes the knowledge component of tasks as well as the importance of services in the economy. Skill training therefore has to evolve and become more than just a means of imparting the knowledge needed to do a more or less routine job. UNESCO’s four pillars of education can reach perfect human being (Al-Insan Al-Kamil) because basicly human the firstly in seeing something, the question is What is that/who is that?. They want to know that. That is the first pillar “Learning to know”. After that, when they had known that they will try to do like that or the question is how to do that/how to do like that. That is the second pillar “Learning to do”. And then, when they had known and done it, they will think how to use it well in the society. So that’s way that is the third pillar “Learning to live together”. Next. When they had known, done, used it well in the society. They should focus to the result of it or after that what will a be ? that is the fourth pillar “Learning to be”.
In my mind, those are pillars are enough to reach perfect human being (Al- Insan Al-Kamil). But they should do it all the pillars well. Include the point or the purpuse of every pillars.

The four pillars of education that has been proclaimed by UNESCO, namely "learning to know, learning to do, learning to be", and "learning to live together" is a very good thing for the advancement of education in the world, especially education in Indonesia. We need to know that education is essentially an attempt to seek to know the information is necessary and useful for life.
    1. Learning to know: Mastery of a deep and broad to specific disciplines, including Learning to How
    2. Learning to do: Learn how to apply science, working together as a team, learn to solve problems in various situations.
    3. Learning to be: learning to be independent, be the person responsible for realizing the common goal.
    4. Learning to live together: Learning to know and appreciate other people, their history and values of his religion.

How can they find additional reference science while all they can be very limited? Then, pointing to the second point, "Learning To Do", learn to work or apply the knowledge gained by students, here again the question arises, how students can work while their knowledge was minimal.

We can see, the pillars of education are indeed designed with a very good and with a very good goal too, but keep in mind, there are still many aspects of the barrier in the implementation of the pillars of education, teachers call it a lack of human resources that truly "qualified" , the difference in the mindset of each community or region in view of the importance of education, then again, FACILITIES, minimum facilities for some funds that do not exist or stop in the pockets of the corrupt, so it is this which will greatly hinder the progress of teaching and learning process, and the constraints another.

So, as a conclusion the four pillars of Education that has been proclaimed by UNESCO, are enough but the applying of it is minim or not enough specially in Indonesia.

    That's all Sir, Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Al farabi is one of the Islamic councils. He was from Turkestan and lived on 8th century. He is a professional in many sciences such as chemist, math, linguistic, and logic. But the most familiar from Al-farabi is about education sector. In Al- Farabi’s perspectives, the goal of education is to lead the individual to perfection since the human being was created for this purpose, and the goal of humanity's existence in this world is to attain happiness, which is the highest perfection—the absolute good. The perfection means benefaction or virtue in theoretic and the application in daily life.

UNESCO (United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization) is one of the organizations which handle the education and culture. The concepts of education according to UNESCO are learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. This concepts became the pillars of education around the world.

In fact, the pillars of education of UNESCO are collateral with Al-farabi’s perspective. The four pillar of education are the representative of Al-farabi’s conceptions.
1.Learning to know, it is suitable with theoretic. The perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil) as the goal of education according to Al-Farabi, is the one who has obtained theoretical virtue—thus completing his intellectual knowledge. Theoretical virtue through completing the intellectual knowledge is the representative of “learning to know”.

2.Learning to do, it is representative of practical skill in Al-Farabi’s perspective.

3.Learning to live together is similar with the goal of education in Al-Farabi’s perspective. One of the goals is preparing the individual from an early age to become a member of society.

4.Learning to be is the describing of the perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil). Trough the education, Al-farabi assumed that the human can be a perfect one.

To apply this pillars, we need to have the quality education. As example, Indonesia as majority of Muslims population in the world has the lower quality of education than others. According to the data in 2011 by UNESCO, Indonesia is in 69th rank of education. Where japan as the first rank. it means, we still have lower education than other. Indonesia can not apply the goal of education according to our constitution (UUD) “mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa” and constitution 1945 (UUD 1945) section 31, verse 3 “pemerintah mengusahakan dan menyelenggarakan satu system pendidikan nasional, yang meningkatkan keimanan dan ketaqwaan serta akhlak mulia dalam rangka mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa” if we do not have the high grade education. But this one appear because of many cases such as: according to the data in 2004/2005 by DIKNAS, thousands of children in Indonesia can not get the education. To solve this case, in 2006 the government programmed “pendidikan untuk semua”, education for all, but till now, this program have not been running well.

As conclusion the pillars of education by UNESCO are already complete enough, and it is suitable with Al-Farabi’s perspective about the goal of education. But the main point that we should do now is how to apply these pillars to reach the happiness and to be the perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil).

In the view of Al-Farabi, education is a medium to get a set of values, knowledge and practical skills for individuals in a particular period and culture. The ultimate goal, guiding individuals to reach perfection.
man was created in order to achieve perfection. Meanwhile, the highest perfection is happiness. According to Al-Farabi, the perfect man are those who already know the virtues in theory and run it in practice daily.

Learning to know (learning to know) in the process is not simply knowing what is meaningful but also at the same time knowing what is not useful for life.

Education is a learning process to be able to do something (learning to do). The learning process produces changes in the cognitive, competence enhancement, and the selection and acceptance are aware of the values, attitudes, appreciation, feelings, and willingness to act or respond to a stimulus.

Education equips people not just to know, but even more to do skilled or doing something that produces something meaningful to life. Mastery of knowledge and skills is part of the process of being yourself (learning to be). Being a self-defined as the process of understanding the needs and identity.

Learning to behave in accordance with the norms and rules prevailing in the society, learn to become successful, is really a process of achieving self-actualization. Of his ability, as a result of the education process, to be the protection to be able to play in an environment where individuals are located, and well able to put themselves in accordance with its role. An understanding of the role of self and others in the group studied is socializing at lunch in the community (learning to live together).

In an effort to meet the four pillars of education mentioned above, education can not be allowed to run as it is. Educational institutions must be managed intelligently and professionally. The process of planning, organizing, leadership, and supervision in education should be done in a systemic and systematic, and directed at achieving national education goals is to develop students' potentials to become a man of faith and devoted to God Almighty, noble, healthy, knowledgeable, competent , creative, independent, and become citizens of a democratic and accountable.

So in my opinion, the four pillars are already insufficient and represent all sesuatuinya to produce human potential in all areas, but that should be emphasized disisni is returned to the application of the four pillars of itself.

According to UNESO there are four pillars of education: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. The question is how UNESCO ‘s four pillar of education can reach perfect human being(al- insan al- kamil).

The first, learning to know means that as a learner, he/she should study hard to know everything in this world. As a muslim, of course has known that the first verse sent down by Allah is iqra(read!), in this verse, can be said that we are obligated to study and learn so that we understand our distination in life.

The second, learning to do refer to the application of knowledge that we have learnt, because if only learning to kow isn’t enough, why? Cause the purpose of knowledge is that understand and application.

The third, learning to live together. The educated people wish to live together without have an enemy, and exsist base on the norms in the society. So to understand them, we shoould learn how to live together.
The fourth, learning to be. Al-quran and hadith teach us how to be a perfect human or al-insan al-kamil. Therefore the God delegated prophets, and tough the human being to be al-insan al-kamil.

If the UNESCO’s four pillars of education are correllated to the Al-Farabi's view about the education, I can say that learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be has tight relation between the concepts of Al-Farabi like: discipline (ta'dib), correction/assessment (taqwim), training (tahdhib), guidance (tasdid), instruction (ta'lim), exercise or learning (irtiyad), and upbringing or education (tarbiya). Good manners or culture (adab). Both the concepts are right, whether UNESCO or Al-Farabi, and relevan with the norms in the society, but the question is: How about the fact in daily life?. The UNESCO and Al-Farabi’s perspective/teaching is not suitable with the application which are done by the human being. Eg, in the second point of UNESCO’s (learning to do), and ta’lim(exercise or learning) Al-farabi’s, both of them didn’t run base on the rules, such as corruptors. The corruptors always learn and exercise, and of course they have much knowledge, but way did they corrupt the country’s money?. The answer is that they refused the concepts of Al-Farabi and UNESCO.

Finally, I want to conclude that the Al-Farabi’s and UNESCO’s concepts are relevant with the norm and concepts of Islam, but the fact or application of those didn’t, because the human being disobey them. So to make an education run well, and reach the perfect human being or al-insan al-kamil we sould obey all the regulations of those concepts.

My opinion about these UNESCO’s four pillars of education, namely learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be are enough to reach perfect human being (Al-Insan Al-Kamil). Besides, they are connected and bound each other to result goodness and happiness in human life.

First pillar “learning to know” is concern with how people have to learn and understand their world and environment around them. It is implies learning how to learn by developing one’s concentration, memory, skills and ability to think. As in Islam, Allah has obligates everyone even male or female to study and learn every time and everywhere that education will bring happiness into human’s future.

Second is “learning to do”. This type of learning is emphasizes application of knowledge component through task. People have to do the task that he or she has learned before. This training has to evolve and become more than just a means of imparting knowledge needed to do a more or less routine job.

Third, “learning to live together” refers to how people can respect the right of other people and work together without see what color his or her skin, what religion he or she is, or where he or she comes from. So that people can live harmony, peaceful, without enemy and disruption between them.

Fourth, “learning to be” is learn how to complete or fulfill as perfect human being, in all richness of his personality, the complexity of his various commitments as individual, member of family and of community, creation of God, citizen, etc.

In fact, there is correlation between Al-Farabi’s and UNESCO’s perspective about concept of perfect human being in education actually. Both two are combine value of intelligence and virtuous to reach perfect human being. He expects knowledge and virtue run together to achieve happiness and goodness into their life.

In brief, I can conclude that, to become a perfect human being we should have knowledge and implement what we have learned before. Each of them are connect and bind as unity as those four pillars above and also the principle of Islam state that “do what He ask and avoid what He forbid” (Amar ma’ruf nahi munkar)

In my opinion, UNESCO’s fourth pillars of education was perfect for human being cause if the human implement all of the fourth pillars the human can obtained the true knowledge from their life. In the same manner as Al-Faraby’s view is the one who has obtained theoretical virtue thus completing his intellectual knowledge and has acquired practical moral virtues thus becoming perfect in his moral behavior. From the first pillar, Learning to know ; The human learn and obtained knowledge to know their live and the world around them that, why she or he created and who their creator, what they must to do from all understanding , so the human can develop their thinking to fulfill their necessary life.
The second pillar, Learning to do ; When the thinking was develop effect from knowledge about life, world around automatically the human must to do it, apply their knowledge to attain the real purpose from what the human learn before.
The third pillar, Learning to live together ; The human is the social man in the world, they can’t live without another people or mutual dependence, so what they do influential with other, knowledge that they get in this world, can have function with good, if they making understanding each other with accept difference, like: respect rights of people.
And the last pillar is Learning to be ; beside, learning to know, learning to do and learning to live together was fulfilled we can perfect our knowledge with learning to be a human real, we must balance our knowledge and attitude, include the norm of life and one of the education purpose is to form the human as a matter fact, cause human without mind like an animal. And be the one that have perfection which Al-Faraby expects from education is combines knowledge and virtous behaviour to attain happiness and goodness at one and the same time.
So, as a conclusion the fourth pillars of education from UNESCO is the power of education, that can be guidance for human in their life, cause all of pillars have correlation each other and contain all the norm of live as a creature of Allah SWT, include Al-Faraby unites moral and aesthetic moral ; good is beautiful and beauty is good.

I strongly agree about point of view UNESCO’s pillars of education. The first thing that is Learning to know lays the foundations of learning throughth out life. Where this pillar refer to the basic knowledge that we need to be able to understand our environment. It is also about arousing curiosity allowing us to experience .Naturally, learning to know pre suppose that we develop the power of concentration, memory, and thought. In short, that we have to learning .
The second, learning to do that learning not only refers to the acquisition of values, knowledge but also practical skills by individual. As this pillar is about the competence of putting what we have learned into, iron which has got many beneficial uses for mankid .But for producing iron from one , we have to uses one’s skill which come through ilm ( learning). We have to apply it appropriate technology in order to make production process efficient.
The third, learning to live together refers to developing an understanding of other through dialogue. It leading to emphaty, respect, and appreciation. Yet, if we are to understand other, we must first know ourselves. it is also about recognizing our growing independence, about experiencing shared purposes; and about implementing common projects and joint future. Then it will be possible to manage inevitable conflicts in a peaceful way.
The fourth, learning to be is deal with the broadening of care for each aspect of the personality and also giving us the freedom of thought, feeling and imagination. We need to act more independently with more insight, more critically and more responsibly. The end of education is to discover and open the talents which hidden like treasure within every person.
So ,as conclusion the four pillar of education cannot be defined separately, they form an integrated whole complementing and strengthening each other. if we can be applied in our life it can refer to the goal of humanity’s existance is to attain happiness. It suitable al-farabi’s point of view.

In my opinion to the four pillars has been quite able to achieve the perfect man. As we ketehui that the purpose of human creation is to be able to be a caliphate that is able to worship God and establish a set of people who know each other-knowing, mutual assistance for the creation of a peaceful world order of life.
It is expected that ongoing education throughout the world including Indonesia could be better and more developed.
first, Learn to know, the man or the students can improve their knowledge and find additional references for science education by using the facilities are adequate.
second, Learning to do, students' knowledge of the education process they could implement in life, mainly in the future so that they are doing something useful for all levels of society
third, Learning to live together, referring to how people can respect the rights of others and work together regardless of what his skin color, what religion he or she, or where it originated. So people can live in harmony, peace, with no enemies and interference between them.
the last, Learning to be, how to become a perfect human being, the education process is to gain knowledge so that people can become better people, where their lives more meaningful (useful) are not only on personal interests but also for the common good.

We can see the pillars of education are very well designed and tujuaan useful, but masigh much hampered some aspects, namely the lack of educational facilities for students and qualified human resources, as well as differences in human thinking about education. Efforts to improve the quality of a nation 'there is no other way except by Improving the quality of education. Report from UNESCO launched the Four Pillars of education: (1) Learning to know, (2) learning to do (3) learning to be, and (4) learning to live together.
    1. Learning to know
    a. capable of developing breakthrough science and technology and respond to new information sources.
    b. utilize various sources of learning.
    c. network society
    d. learning to learn and life-long education
    2. Learning to do
    a. bridge the knowledge and skills
    b. integrate learning by doing and doing by learning
    c. linking learning with the competency
    d. psychology associate learning with learning sociology
    3. Learning to be
    a. as contributing to the formation of values shared
    b. link between the hands and minds of individuals with society, the establishment of the cognitive and non cognitive, as well as formal and non formal learning.
    4. Learning to live together
    a. build a value system
    b. identity formation through the ownership concept
The purpose of education in the philosophy of Al-Farabi is to achieve perfection and happiness. For that task of education is to prepare people as members who are ready to plunge into the society. This preparation begins in childhood adulthood so that he will have a good disposition, especially in excellence and also the goals he made. Such education is essential to the human soul. Overall acitvity education is the gain values, intellectual knowledge and practical skills, which must then be developed on goals is bring men to perfection.
Human perfection, he says, is the final process in reaching the values of theoretical or intellectual knowledge and practical values or moral behavior. By achieving both of these businesses, individuals will be able to enter into the society by becoming members of the public. Individuals who are thick with these properties will be a role model and then can become a leader. Such education is also about morality and aesthetics. The results is one of happiness and goodness. So based on what the ad pointed out UNESCO's still something that is not complete (from my opinion) to establish an insane kamil or still missing in Leaning to have a good morality. This section is one of the things important to form a human soul, because according to the educational goals of al faraby expressed in one article said that the perfection of a human being is the final process in achieving the theoretical values, practical and moral behavior.

Theoretical and practical perfection achieved here in the community because of the understanding of human freedom that exist after the community.

  46. In an effort to improve the quality of a nation, there is no other way except by improving the quality of education. In the twentieth century UNESCO (United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) designed a learning method base on with four pillars namely
    - learn to know that is in the process is not simply knowing what is meaningful but also at the same time knowing what is not useful for life. Also seek and gain knowledge as much as possible.
    - learn to do that is learning to apply knowledge, work together as a team, learn to solve problems in various situations, learning to work. Here also emphasize the importance of interaction and action, such as solving existing problems in the surrounding areas through a real action.
    - Learn to live together is instill awareness to students that they are part of the community. So they should able to live together. With the increasing ethnic diversity in Indonesia, we need instilling the attitude to be able to live together.
    - Learn to develop the Learning to be independent, be the person responsible for realizing the common goal.

The four pillars are combining goals - goals IQ, EQ and SQ. And education also will take place throughout life, for that we must pole on all four pillars. Than they are will not be able to stand alone because without all four pillars of education will not be the same.

UNESCO has five main programs are distributed through: education (tarbiya), natural sciences, social & human sciences (adab), culture and communication & information (study groups). International science learning program (irtiyad) projects of regional history and culture of international cooperation agreements to secure the cultural and natural heritage and preserve human rights and try to fix the digital world of difference.

But the purpose of education in the view of al-Farabi is leads the individual into a perfect man (al-man al-kamil) is also the purpose of human existence in the world is to achieve happiness. And Al-Farabi expect perfection of education that combines knowledge with godly behavior in which the happiness and goodness happening at the same time. So for the four pillars of education and learning the concept of Al-Farabi must be implementation of the two to achieve a perfect human being where the fourth pillar is complete but not matched by the behavior of good deeds.

As a conclusion The bottom four pillars of UNESCO's education is sufficient and is closely connected with the concept of learning Al-Farabi and both must be undertaken, should not be separated because of the four pillars cannot stand alone and learning the concept of Al-Farabi coupled with good works, it will be a perfect human .

I think what has been implemented by UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for the twenty-first century education Throughout Life That is the base upon Four Pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be That can reach perfect human being. Why?? And how come? In this 21st century, has been proclaimed that the important global of lifelong education. Globalization has produced results and processes that make learning new skills and competencies are very important. Can broadly be defined that lifelong education is learning that is flexible, diverse and available at different times and in different places. Lifelong education can instill creativity, initiative and response in people to enable them to demonstrate to adapt in society and become a perfect human being, it is based by four pillars of education for the future are:
 Learning to know - mastering learning tools rather Than acquisition of structured knowledge.
 Learning to do - equipping people for the types of work needed now and in the future Including innovation and adaptation of learning to future work environments.
 Learning to live together, and with others - peacefully resolving conflict, Discovering other people and Their Cultures, fostering communitycapability, individual competence and capacity, economic resilience, and social inclusion.
 Learning to be - education contributing to a person's complete development: mind and body, intelligence, sensitivity, aesthetic appreciation and spirituality.
Basically what is in implemented by UNESCO in the four basics education has a similarity to the al-Farabi's perspective about education. Where all educational activities, in view of al-Farabi, it can be concluded as the acquisition of values, knowledge and practical skills by individuals within a certain period and certain cultures. We know that the goal of education is to lead individuals to perfection because man is created in this world to achieve happiness is the supreme and absolute perfection. Therefore they also need to continue to develop intelligence, ability and integrity.
Although the concept of education has been neatly arranged to achieve the goal of education is expected, but the reality that exists in the community did not reflect that man has reached perfection. This is caused by a lack of application of the knowledge they have, so that there are four basic education is not done, for example, they know about how to be fair, honest, respect the rights and opinions of others, but they just ignore it.
Many of the intellectuals who have a lot of science but does not reflect the way a well-educated. Especially in our country, Indonesia, why do I say so, because Indonsia entered the top five most corrupt in the world, where the perpetrators are intellectuals. They ought to be an example it just gives the wound and sorrow in the hearts of the community. Actually, they understand the purpose of human existence but they failed to do so, perhaps because they have wealth and power so that they feel powerful. They are the leaders who have been deceiving and misleading the public. As al-Farabi called it "weed" in a virtuous society: people who are trying to undermine progress toward the end of a truly human.
in fact, four basics education adopted by UNESCO could create a perfect human being as the purpose of education, just that its application is less, so the conclusion that I can give is to apply the knowledge to create happiness and prosperity in the world and the hereafter.

The are four pillars of education can reach the perfect human being base on UNESCO. The first, lerning to know; the second , learning to do; the third, learning to be; the last, learning to live together. I think through the pillars people can reach the perfect human being .
From my point of view learning to know refers to acquisition knowledge or information widely. Now, there are many ways to get knowledge . we study to know something, to get more information. Now we face with globalization era where people try to make competiition each other .so if we do not have knowledge we will lag behind.
Lerning to do., in our live we are hoped to make or create something. Knowledge that has gotten before must be implemented . in learning to do people should have capability to make inovation .
Learning to be, we study because thereis idea or goal which will be reached. from knowledge we think that we will more better and make ourselves usefull for other people. Can actualize our life.
Learning to live together .we life in society that more complex. Sometimes we meet people that have background social which different , so we must learn how to live together how to make relationship with other.
In my view, that pillars are enough to reach the perfect human being and cannot separate each other. But the problem now, there are many aspect of the barrier in the implementation of the pillars of education. People just know theory about that but to apply in our life it does not in reality. We know that the four pillars of education can make the perfect human being but we do not have awareness about that .

One is to require the teaching of Islam to Muslims to carry out education. Because according to the teachings of Islam, education is an absolute requirement of human life must be met, for the sake of achieving prosperity and happiness in this world and the hereafter. This can be met if the 4 pillars of education in published by UNESCO in the XXI century can be met, such as learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be.

1.Learning to know, education is essentially an attempt to seek to know the information is necessary and useful for life. Learning to know (learning to know) in the process is not simply knowing what is meaningful but also at the same time knowing what is not beneficial to life.

2.Learning to do, education is a process of learning to do something. The learning process produces changes in the cognitive, competence enhancement, and the selection and acceptance values. Education equips people not just to know, but even more to do skilled or doing something that produces something meaningful to life.

3.Learning to be, mastery of knowledge and skills is part of the process of learning to be yourself. Being a self-defined as the process of understanding the needs and identity. Learning to behave in accordance with the norms and rules in force in the community, and learn to become successful, is actually the process of achieving self-actualization.
Maximum self-development (learning to be) closely related to their talents and interests, physical and mental development, children's personal typology & its environmental conditions. The ability of self is formed in the maximum school enables children to develop themselves at a higher level.

4.Learning to live together, With the ability, as a result of the education process, to be the protection to be able to play in an environment where individuals are located, and able to put themselves in accordance with its role. An understanding of the role of self and others in the group studied is socializing at lunch in the community.

I think the 4 pillars that proclaimed by UNESCO was able to change someone into a perfect human (Al-Insan al-Kamil), but the implementation of the 4 pillars are still not accomplished. This may be caused due to lack of awareness of the importance of each individual implementers knowledge possessed by the individual. So in conclusion, to create the perfect Human (Al-Ihsan Al- Kamil) in addition to the theory held must be accompanied by good implementation.

I agree with the UNESCO four pillars of education can reach perfect human being ( Al-insan Al-kamil) and correlated with Al-Farabi’s perspective on the goals of islamic education. the four pillars are :

    - Learning to know is the most clearly traditional function of education. Learning to know something that unknown and learning to develop or deep something that we have known. Because, knowledge is broadest so that’s way the programs of life long education raises up.

    - Learning to do, this type of learning involves the learning of skills, the linking of knowledge with practice, and is part of the training that is necessary for work. As a moslem we must

    - learn something and do what we have learned because knowledge without charities like the fruitless tree.

    - Learning to live together There can be no illusion that education is doing its job unless it emphasizes and achieves progress in living together. Living together implies the absences of open conflict in the first instance. But it means more than that. It means learning that each other human being is equally worthy of respect, whether of the other sex, or of another ethnic, religious or cultural group. It means accepting that each human being has responsibility towards others. It means accepting difference, and perhaps even a lack of understanding, among people or groups, but an the resolution of difference by negotiation.

    - Learning to be is essential for the development of the human personality and for the young person to become a complete adult. learning to be is the central focus of education: "mind and body, intelligence, sensitivity, aesthetic sense, personal responsibility and spiritual values".

In My mind, the UNESCO four pillars of education and Al-Farabi’s perspective can reach perfect human being if not just more in theory and than less in application. So that’s way theory and practice can’t be seperated each other in order to meanless.

    Thank you

Education is very important need in human life. To achieve these educational, human beings should effort to do the learning in order to become perfect human beings. Therefore, UNESCO (United States of Educational Scientical and Cultural Organization) published four pillars of education that can be the basis of human education, namely:

    1. Learning to know, the process of seeking knowledge as widely as possible with the goal of human wholeness in mind, conscience, and spiritual. I think is very appropriate with the existing reality of human need that has a great sense of curiosity and to achieve it the human have to learn. Especially in the current era of globalization, information, knowledge and technology are continues to grow, then we must learn to to be intellectually competent, able to fulfill our spiritual needs as well as important things about life in nature. Learning to learn in the process is not only knowing what is beneficial but also knowing what is not useful for life.

    2. Learning to do, namely a broad knowledge must be applied for can be used as an action and good works. Because the theory without application is useless. So learn not only teaches us to know but how we are skilled to do or doing something that produces something meaningful to life.

    3. Learning to be, to learn to be independent and responsible for everything that is based on the knowledge and skills we have. This relates to what he aspired to a person in this life.

    4. Learning to live together, to learn to understand and appreciate others. This is consistent with human nature as social beings who can not live alone and need cooperation with other people. So anything that we have learned we must apply our environment are.

So the congclution is the things that has become a pillar of education that has been publised by UNESCO has been able to be perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil). One of the example is the Indonesian Government through the Dept. / Ministry of National education RI has issued Decree No. Related 045/U/2002 correlated with competantion of elements that must be developed in all strata of education that refers to the meaning of UNESCO's four pillars of education. But what we see today is less application of the theories that have been mentioned above.

My opinion about the four pillars of education is enough. the first is learning to know, learning to know is a procces to know something and everything what we want to know. We can get it in the world of education. Like in the school, home and society environment. Second, learning to do. When we have got knowledge, we can apply in our life and practicing on of it. The third is learning to life together. We know that nobody can life in this world without the other person because we are the social creature. So that, we have to esteeming fellow being especially people who around us. And the last is learning to be. Surely, every person in this world have aspiration or dream. Therefore, we just reach what our dream and the important is to be useful for our life in the world and in the eternity.

According to UNESCO, there are four pillars of education, namely learning to know, learning to do, learn to live together and learn to be. The question is, whether through the four pillars of education mankind has been able to achieve the perfect man? Is that enough or is missing? In my opinion, this is closely related to Al-Farabi's concept that education is one of the most important social phenomenon in his philosophical system. The fourth pillar is the basic concept of man in education. First is learning to know. This means that if we want to start an education, we must first know what it is education, we must start from point zero. All people can not directly smart, everything takes the process and learning.
After learning, we must learn to do. That is, the knowledge we gain must be applied in life because Science will have no meaning unless it can be applied in the science community. If not. Remain, in its application, there must be a benchmark or foundation in the act. The basis of the intention here is moral. Moral norms are the composition and behavior in society.
Next is learning to live together. Humans are social creatures, creatures that society. Whatever we can not live alone without interacting with other humans. Science that we get should be developed together with other people. We get a lot of input as well as a material for introspection what our strengths and weaknesses. Behold, the man who both are capable of being aware of shortcomings to be a lot to learn again.
Learning to be. Means. When the students take responsibility for political leadership, he believes they could be role models because they have the theoretical and moral goodness. The purpose of education is to lead individuals to perfection as man was created for this purpose, and purpose of human existence in this world is to achieve happiness, which mer upakan highest perfection.
So by learning to know, learning to do, learn to live together and learning to be, I think that's enough to make basic education in human beings to become perfect human. Actually, no man is perfect in this world but if we connect the four pillars of education with the concept of Al-Farabi, is certainly linked to each other. According to Al-Farabi perfect human being is a human being who knows good in theory and run it in practice daily. That is, the perfect man (al-man al-kamil), is a person who has obtained a complete theory of goodness so that intellectual knowledge and has gained practical moral goodness so that it becomes perfect in his moral behavior.

According to UNESCO's view there are four pillars of education, while the four pillars of learning to know, learning to do, learn to live together and learn to be. The four pillars that have their meanings in the learning process toward a perfect man.
Learning to know, basically the main purpose of the study is to gain new skills or knowledge for individuals who aim ultimately is to guide each individual's own to get to perfection.
Learning to do science means that you have found will not mean anything before it is applied in everyday life environment of the community in accordance with the theory speaks.
Learning to live together, where among humans with each other need each other means that every individual is never separated from the aid or with the cooperation with other individuals ..
Learning to be, meaning how a person is in demand to be a caliph or a good leader on this earth, that is by applying all the ideas or knowledge that has been found in order to solve a problem that occurs with the objective to inculcate virtue in a society where individuals It became caliph, or leader.
Thus, with the four pillars on top of the human can be guided to become perfect human beings because the concept is already in use as guidelines by the man in education in order to achieve the goal of life is perfect.

As we know, UNESCO (United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization) is an organization which is handle the education and culture problems in the world. About education, we recognize UNESCO’s four pillar for education. This concept is able to improve us and reach a better life for us.
First pillar is “Learning to know”. Here, someone should combine between the chance to get knowledge as much as possible and the chance to take part and work in a number of smaller subject. It is not only how to know something, but also how to solve problem, how to understand, stimulate the critical thinking, improve our ability, take decision, and many more.
Second is “Learning to do”. It’s talking about how we can doing something. How to get skill, make communication and socialization with the other (for example in team work), able to organize, looking for experience, then we already fight for life competition.
Next pillar is “Learning to be” is learn to improve our personality and chance to be an independent person, critical, and be responsible. In this case, education can't ignore the aspect of someone such as memory, aesthetic, common sense, physical ability and communication skill.
And the last is “Learning to live together” values each others by recognizes ourselves first, then recognize the other, values of “pluralitas”, understand that everybody has the difference culture, religion, life history, and background. Then, make any connection.

Those four pillar have a correlation to al-Farabi’s theory. Both of those concept are perfect for human life. As conclude, I think the content of the concepts are combine between knowledge and virtues behavior, education. As we know the goal of education is to lead the individual to perfection since the human being was created for this purpose, and the goal of humanity's existence in this world is to attain happiness. It teach us about morality, peace, knowledge, education, aesthetic, values, and togetherness so we can be a perfect human (al-insan al-kamil). And also, this concept have similarity with the concept of Islamic education.

UNESCO (United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization) of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century that education throughout life is based upon four pillars:
    Learning to know
Learning to know implies learning how to learn by developing one's concentration, memory skills and ability to think. From infancy, young people must learn how to concentrate on objects and on other people. This pilar includes the development of the faculties of memory, imagination, reasoning, problem-solving, and the ability to think in a coherent and critical way.

    Learning to do
This pillar of learning implies in the first place for application of what learners have learned or known into practices; it is closely linked to vocational-technical education and work skills training. However it goes beyond narrowly defined skills development for doing specific things or practical tasks in traditional or industrial economies. The emerging knowledge-based economy is making human work increasingly immaterial.

    Learning to live together
This pilar of learning implies the development of such qualities as: knowledge and understanding of self and others; appreciation of the diversity of the human race and an awareness of the similarities between, and the interdependence of, all humans; empathy and cooperative social behavior in caring and sharing; respect of other people and their cultures and value systems; capability of encountering others and resolving conflicts through dialogue; and competency in working towards common objectives.
    .
    Learning to be
Learning to be may be interpreted in one way as learning to be human, through acquisition of knowledge, skills and values conducive to personality development in its intellectual, moral, cultural and physical dimensions. This implies a curriculum aiming at cultivating qualities of imagination and creativity; acquiring universally shared human values; developing aspects of a person’s potential.

As a conclusion, It is important to note that the four pillars of learning relate to all phases and areas of education. They support and interpenetrate one another and should be applied as basic principles. If everyone especially the student understand well the UNESCO’s four pilars of education and apply and implementate all of them in daily life. I’m sure that human can be the perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil). Because in farabi’s concept the perfect human being (al-insan al kamil) is the one who completing his intellectual knowledge and practical moral virtues. This concept has representative in UNESCO’s the four pilars of education (Learning to know; Learning to do; Learning to live together; and Learning to be).

In fact, education is one of the most important social phenomena in al-Faraby’s philosophical system. It is concerned with the human soul and makes sure that the individual is prepared to reach the goal for which he was created. Because the education destination is to lead the individual be perfect one. Related with Enesco Education pillar, Learning to know, learning to do, learning to life together and learning to be, in my point of view those are have most similarities with Al faraby’s philosophical system.

Learning to know: Looking at it as a means, people have to learn to understand the world around them, at least as much as is necessary for them to lead their lives with some dignity, develop their occupational skills and communicate with other people.

Learning to do: how do we adapt education so that it can equip people to do the types of work needed in the future? one of the goals of education is to combine learning with practical action, for the purpose of knowledge is that it should be applied, and perfection of life is transformed into action: ‘

Learning to life together: Experience shows that isn’t enough to set up contacts and communication between people who are liable to come into conflict to reduce this risk If the different groups are rivals or if they do not have the same status in the same geographical area, they may have the opposite effect to that desired it can make opportunity for conflict So, of education come to teach us about human diversity and awareness of the similarities among us .

Learning to Be: All people should receive in their childhood and youth an education that equips them to develop their own independent, critical way of thinking and how to judge something. So that they can make up their own minds on the best courses of action in the different circumstances.

After knowing we apply in our life with all societies than we can be (insan Al kamil ) and find the perfection of life which bring us safety in the world and hereafter .

And as we know, we also had learnt islamic education where build good behaviour among us.
however most of us not implement in daily life and push it all aside.
The best way to cope it by repair and improve our educational quality that able to increas our society awareness to their responsible and identify their right in social life. and it just can realize by present and practice the right way to applicate the education then finally can stimilate their awareness.
    how do you think miss?

  66. The whole activity of education, in al-Farabi's view, can be summed up as the acquisition of values, knowledge and practical skills by the individual, within a particular period and a particular culture. The goal of education is to lead the individual to perfection since the human being was created for this purpose, and the goal of humanity's existence in this world is to attain happiness, which is the highest perfection the absolute good. The perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil), thought al-Farabi, is the one who has obtained theoretical virtue thus completing his intellectual knowledge and has acquired practical moral virtues thus becoming perfect in his moral behaviour.
Dr. Anthony Subianto. OSC. L.phil, explained a unity from the elements of the learning philosophy. A unity is the unity of logos, eros, pathos and ethos. Logos are always associated with intellect, eros associated with how people love (in means of creativity), pathos is the solidarity (where the feelings and concerns in it), and ethos that is more directed to the issue of morality and spirituality. Subianto then outlines four things in relation to the four pillars of education which proposed by UNESCO (United States of Educational Scientical and Cultural Organization).
In my point of view, learning to know, in this case is emphasized for children to acquire as much knowledge of the true breadth and width to avoid unknown because unknown has caused people to be not good. So learning to know is the process of seeking knowledge as widely as possible with the goal of human wholeness in mind, conscience and spirituality for people always do good things in life.
Learning to do, in this case emphasized the ability to act and create. Knowledge must be applied for can be used as an action and good works. Kongzi said "wise man is free from doubt; virtuous man free from anxiety; brave man free from fear". This means people will be happy if free from anxiety, is it would success or not and free from fear of failure. So the action and work is a human duty which it would be successfully or not an action, it is not a valuation but the determination to always strive to do it well.
Learning to be, equal to the theory of tolerance to others. Where this theory explained "what ourselves do not want, not to be given to others", it is mean do not do something to others if you do not want others to do it to you. In this case we are required to understand others as ourselves, making ourselves as a benchmark of moral reflection.
Learning to live together is people learns to live together with other people because humans are social beings who still need help from others in interacting and communicating. In the social life needed sense of humanity contained in the attitude of love to others. So people learn to live together, love each other so that to create a happy community life.
And my conclusion is I think the fourth pillars are the basic fundamental in education, because this now education be an important element to the world, can not be ruled out again its role with and for whatever reason .. The four pillars are considered the most ideal to reach the ideal education for humanity. The four pillars are connected by four points which submitted by Dr. Anthony are learning to know is logos, learning to do is eros, learning to be is ethos and learning to live together is pathos.

In my point of view, four pillars in education according to UNESCO those are: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be, are possibly still not enough to get human be as perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil).
Learning to know is defined as an effort to get any information on something, learning to do is the implementation on something that already known through doing action, learning to live together is a willing to live besides others, and learning to be.
Probably the four pillars look like able to reach almost all aspects in human’s life in order to be a perfect human, but learning to teach, and learning to assess as mentioned in al-Farabi’s terms about the perfect human concept are not about a number of words only but it also reaches both of intellectual knowledge and moral behavior that becomes the top edge as a perfect human, as describes by al-Farabi, “perfect human The being (al-insan al-kamil), is the one who has obtained theoretical virtue—thus completing his intellectual knowledge—and has acquired practical moral virtues—thus becoming perfect in his moral behaviour”.
As the conclusion, the four fundaments where the education stands as a something valuable to be acquired could be not enough to get human in to a perfect one because it seems not be able to reach the requirements involving intellectual, moral and behavior to be a perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil).

Education throughout live is is based upon four pillars. learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, learning to be.

in mai point of view, learning to know is the foundation of learning throughout life. this pillar refers to the basic knowledge that we need to able to undertand our environment, ourselves, and we need to live, and insight to be able to learn to live together.

learning to do is learn how to have someone that is able to apply the understanding they have and can act creatively to the environmet.in order to reach a peaceful life together.

learning to live together is to learn how so that we can live together within the existing differences. with mutual respect, mutual understanding and cooperate with each other.

learning to be, in this case is to learn how to have someone that can do and be responsible and could become independet person.

I think,by applying the above four pillars in our lives, then we can reach a perfect human being or al-insan al-kamil.

UNESCO of the international commission on education for the twenty-first century stated that there are four pillars of education which become basis of lifelong education. They are learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. Those pillars are to be applied in human’s life for reaching perfect human being. They are great basis and principles in improving human’s capability and capacity through education for being Al-insan Al- kamil.

Learning to know lays the foundations of learning throughout life. This pillar refers to the basic knowledge that we need to be able to understand our environment and to live in dignity. This study focused on the concept of basic and general knowledge with the opportunity to work on specific areas that continue to develop in accordance with changes in science and socio-economic activities.

Learning to do. It refers to the acquisition of practical skills, but also to an aptitude for teamwork and initiative and a readiness to take risks. As such, this pillar is about the competence of putting what we have learned into practice so as to act creatively on our environment.

Learning to live together is the pillar that the UNESCO commission emphasizes more than any other. It refers first of all to developing an understanding of others.

Learning to be is founded on the fundamental principle that education needs to contribute to the all- round development of each individual. This pillar deals with the broadening of care for each aspect of the personality. It deals with given as the freedom of thought, feeling, and imagination that we need to act more independently, with more inside, more critical in more responsibly. The end of education is to discover and open the talents which are hidden like a treasure within every person.

Finally, I can conclude that UNESCO’s four pillars of education can be applied in human’s life for making perfect human being ( al-insan al-kamil). Those pillars are great principles in improving human’s capability and capacity.

Thanks before. For the first time, let me say that I do agree with a statement which says that “The goal of education is to lead the individual to perfection since the human being was created. Related to the education, of course there many things that should be known to make the human being’s life well. On of them are the UNESCO’s 4 pillars of education, where they have an important relation with the goal of education. They are:
First, learn to know. This sentence could be defined as in looking for science or education it does not mean not only to get knowledge, title and other specific goal, but how to understand what we get before. This is could be defined also like this, as people we should learn how to understand the world around us, like the societies’ life, their occupation skill and others.
Second, learn to do. As a human being, one of the most important things that should be kept in our depth hearts is after leaning the most significant must be done is applying what we learn and this one is very hope in Islam that try applying or teaching what you get.
Third, learn to live together. Human being since was created called as social creature which means that no one human being on this world could life without other people’s help. Like try to live with other societies calmly and avoid something which could make societies conflict one another.
Fourth, learn to be. The end or the result of looking for science or education generally is of course to get a job which could make our life well than before. One of kinds of job is leader men in societies’ life which could lead all people be better.
From the UNESCO’s 4 pillars of education above , I could conclude that the key to make the human being’s life better or to make human being could reach ” Al-insan Al-kamil ” is education, but it could be reach by a requirement do not forget to pay attention Al-farabi’s concept like discipline (taqwim), training (tahdud), guidance ( tasdid ,)and instruction ( ta’lim). So, to make the human being reach “Al-Insan Al-Kamil “we should balance between the UNESCO’s 4 pillars of education and Al-farabi’s concept.

Islam is the religion of peace, and it is one of the most sacred and trustworthy religions, which has given us guidance in every aspect of life. Islam has given us education with knowledge which has no limits. The Holy Quran is the most sacred book of Allah revealed on Prophet Muhammad (SAW), for the upliftment guidance and enriched messages to the humanity.
Education is the knowledge of putting one's potentials to maximum use. Without education, no one can find the proper right path in this world.
This importance of education is basically for two reasons. Education makes man a right thinker. Without education, no one can think properly in an appropriate context you. It tells man how to think and how to make decision. The second reason for the importance of education is that only through the attainment of education, man is enabled to receive information from the external world. It is well said that
"Without education, man is as though in a closed room and with education he finds himself in a room with all its windows open towards outside world."
According to al afarabhy “good is beautiful, and beauty is good; the beautiful is that which is valued by the intelligentsia. So this perfection which he expects from education combines knowledge and virtuous behavior; it is happiness and goodness at one and the same time”.
And acoording to unesco there are four pillars of education but I prefer to seet it as a “goal” of education. The first is leraning to be which is emphasized for peole to feel free getting knowledge and develop it. The second is learning to do which emphasize for the learner to be able having a performance competence.the third is leranign to live together which is hooeful thatv learner being able to find a solution from some problems that they ma see and the last is learning to know which cocncern to the student to develop their concentration and their ability to work from what they want to know.
From the definition above we can see the that islam can reach better human being in education not a perfection because the perfection is jus for God. But is there anything missing ?
From my point of view what al either Al-Farabhy or Unesco have the same goal of education. Eventhough we can see that Unesco no really emphasized the religion in his education goal but we can see from AL-Farabhy opinion that Islamic goal of education is not oly making a good student in education but also in behavior that what islam want. That’s what we want as my conclusion.

UNESCO is one of the organizations which handle the education and culture problems in the world. Talking about education, UNESCO has proclaimed The Four Pillars for Education. In my point of view, The four pillars of education that has been proclaimed by UNESCO is very good for our daily life especially for us as a student.

    1. Learning to know
It is the nature of learning. The basical purpose of learning is how to know something that we previously don’t know. Learning is the first step we must take to improve ourselves. Knowing much things will help us a lot.

    2. Learning to do
Learning to do is all about application. After learning to know, the next step is how to make our knowledge usefull by applicating it because knowing without doing is waste.

    3. Learning to be
Socialitaion is one of the basic need of human being. We can’t life without the others. But at the same time, we also need to show our existence. We need that our presence to be admitted. Even we need to be different from others. Our presence depends on who we are and what we do. Once again, this is the reason why we learn and applicate are knowledge.

    4. Learning to live together
As I said earlier, human being needs each other. And because we are living together, social interaction become important thing to learn. This is all about how to be a good friend to other, having a good leadership, showing respect and all it takes to show to others that you are nice.

As a conclution, UNESCO's concepts are relevant with Al Farabi's concepts. because the basic education needed to become perfect human beings(al-insan al-kamil) have been represented from the four pillars mentioned above. it's just how we apply it into daily life.

According to UNESCO there are 4 pillars of view which says that: learning to know, learning to do, learn to live and learn to be. Actually, in my opinion the 4 pillars are quite capable of achieving a more perfect man (al-man al-kamil) to implement this pillar in our education level but that became our problem now is the application of these pillars that must be the realistic in the education system, especially education in Indonesia. That where education in Indonesia is only capable of theoretical concepts in a practical course but otherwise can not be applied correctly and clearly.

    1. Learning to know, that the purpose of learning is to be able to know where the good and bad things, the social level and also in relation to god.
    2. Learning to do, in terms not just get / knows about something but must be accompanied by a real application.
    3. Learning to live together, which should be stressed here that the moral attitudes and social life.
    4. Learning to be, that is learning to be someone who really knows about the various things that are covered in the other pillars above.

according to me. it was actually four pillars of good and nothing needs to be reduced, but should be increased.
The first, if we know something or get a new information it can increase and improve our knowledge. Automatically it can support ourselves to do something. Next, if we can to do and create somethinggood, it included us in learning to live together. How to adjust to our society and of course it is the one of process of learning to be. How can we are go the best person for each other in every aspects of the situation.

learningto know. actually it is the first thing that we have to do. for getting knowledge, we have to learn and know about that.

second is, learn to do. whatever the knowledge we know must be aplicated. because we study to sosialitation to another people. And to make it knowledge be advanced we should to do to another.

learn to living together. our living is not just ourselves. and also there are anoyher so he have to learn how to adaptate in environment. we live together with nature abd people.

As we know from the passage above, the goal of education is to achieve the perfection of human being in order that they can become a good member of society. Dealing with it, UNESCO propose that education throughout life is based on four pillars : learning to know, learning to do, learning to be, and learning to live together. To answer the question on “How these foor pillars can achieve this perfection?”, let’s discuss first about what do it trully mean.
Education is essentially an attempt to seek to know the information is necessary and useful for life. Learning to know in the process is not simply knowing what is meaningful but also at the same time knowing what is not useful for life.
Learning to do is learn how to apply science, working together as a team, learn to solve problems in various situations. Education is also a learning process to be able to do something.
Learning to be is learning to be independent, be the person responsible for realizing the common goal. Mastery of knowledge and skills is part of the process of being yourself.
Learning to live together is learning to understand and appreciate other people, their history and values of his religion. An understanding of the role of self and others in the society will lead us to a better life in the better world.
On the basis of the explanations above, we can conclude that those four pillars will be effective to create a perfection of human being. In my opinion, there is nothing missing anymore means that these four fundamental of education is enough to reach the goal of education when it is applied in educational term.

The ‘Four Pillars of Education’ were originally set out in a report for UNESCO by the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-First Century chaired by Jacques Delors (UNESCO, 1996). These pillars underline the very breadth and depth of UNESCO’s vision of education within and beyond schooling. Education, the report holds, must be organized around four fundamental types of learning throughout a person’s life: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. Although they can be defined separately, they form an integrated whole and should ideally be present in all pedagogical encounters and the curriculum as a whole.

Learning to know: The infant is equipped with sensory capacities which enable him or her to
explore and learn about his or her social and physical surroundings. It is also about arousing curiosity, allowing us to experience the pleasures of research and discovery. It faces us with the challenge of combining a sufficiently broad education with the in-depth investigation of selected subjects. Learning to know implies learning how to learn by developing one’s concentration, memory skills and ability to think.

Learning to do: it describes not only as putting knowledge and learning into practice innovatively through skill development and practical know-how, but also as the development of competence, life skilss, personal qualities, aptitudes. A variety of situations, often unforeseeable, is bound to arise. Learning to do enables us to turn our knowledge into effective innovations.

Learning to live together: It refers of all to developing an understanding of others through dialogue leading to empathy, respect, and appreciation. Yet if we are to understand others, we must first know ourselves. ‘learning to live together’ is also about recognizing our growing interdependence, about experiencing shared purposes, and about implementing common projects and a joint future. Only then will it be possible to manage the inevitable conflicts in a peaceful way. Learning to live together in the wider society requires awareness of and respect for human rights and the responsibilities of local, national and global citizenship.

Learning to be: This pillar deals with the broadening of care for each aspect of the personality. As a means of personality training, education should be a highly individualized process and at the same time an interactive social experience.

By speaking of UNESCO’s four pillars of education, this is a never-ending process that is both personal and shared. Education is not only about know-what, but also about know-why, know-how and know-what for. Said otherwise, learners are not called to merely become experts in their field, but also co-workers in knowledge production processes and managers of meaningful, responsible and sustainable development.

Report to UNESCO of the International Commission on that education throughout life is based upon four pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. These four pillars said can reach perfect human being (al-Insan al-Kamil).
The first pillar is learning to know as a base of acquiring, deepen and benefitted the knowledge. In this pillar involve various effort like read, asking and discussion such method that introduced by Al-Farabi who really emphasize to develop of intelligence where this process as acquisition of value. Indeed, this pillar demand us to seeking for knowledge to get more information about something that can open our eyes and mind in understand the essence of life and made progress of our life. Here teacher should play role as informatory, mediator and facilitator to motivate the student to view education as requirement that should fulfill. This is because learning/education can expand our insight, increase our capability and solving problem that become main requirement to reach the perfect human being.
The second pillar is learning to do as the first step to serve in social life by applies the knowledge that we have learned. In this pillar demand the student to implement the educational virtue that they have got to the real situation and to examine their capability in facing other different situation in social life. The implementation of the knowledge helps us to get as much as learning experience that can help us in interact and familiarize with plural society.
And the next is learning to be, can be interpreted as learning to reach the aspiration. This learning process is personality developments that embody the intellectual, emotion, social, physic and even moral that can make us compete with other people and to fulfill the perfect human being.
The last pillar is learning to live together. In here we can see how the education influent someone and how effective the education give benefit to other people. We can see the law of the National Educational System No.20 year 2003, which says that goal of education not only build our inelegancy of someone but also conscience and compassion.
As conclusion that whole activity of education, in al-Farabi's view is to lead the individual to perfection and the goal of humanity's existence in this world is to attain happiness, which is the highest perfection as the perfect human being.

Revisiting the Four ‘Pillars of Learning’
In order that the essence of the four ‘pillars of learning’ be appropriately interpreted, a brief snapshot follows of what each relates to in term of educational context.

    Learning to know
‘Learning to know’ presupposes learning to learn’, calling upon the power of concentration, memory and thought’, so as to benefit from ongoing educational opportunities continuously arising (formally and non-formally) throughout life.

Therefore ‘learning to know’ can be regarded as both a means and an end in learning itself and in life. As a means, it serves to enable individual learners to understand the very least enough about the nature, about humankind and its history, about his/her environment, and about society at large. As an end, it enables the learner to experience the pleasure of knowing, discovering and understanding as a process.

    Learning to do
This pillar of learning implies in the first place for application of what learners have learned or known into practices; it is closely linked to vocational-technical education and work skills training. However it goes beyond narrowly defined skills development for ‘doing’ specific things or practical tasks in traditional or industrial economies. The emerging knowledge-based economy is making human work increasingly immaterial. ‘Learning to do’ calls for new types of skills, more behavioral than intellectual. The material and the technology are becoming secondary to human qualities and interpersonal relationship.

    Learning to live together
In the context of increasing globalization, the Delors Commission places a special emphasis on this pillar of learning. It implies an education taking two complementary paths: on one level, discovery of others and on another, experience of shared purposes throughout life. Specifically it implies the development of such qualities as: knowledge and understanding of self and others; appreciation of the diversity of the human race and an awareness of the similarities between, and the interdependence of, all humans; empathy and cooperative social behavior in caring and sharing; respect of other people and their cultures and value systems; capability of encountering others and resolving conflicts through dialogue; and competency in working towards common objectives.

    Learning to be
This type of learning was first conceptualized in the Report to UNESCO in 1972, Learning To Be (Edgar Faure et al), out of the fear that ‘the world would be dehumanized as a result of technical change’. It was based on the principle that ‘the aim of development is the complete fulfillment of man, in all the richness of his personality, the complexity of his forms of expression and his various commitments – as individual, member of a family and of a community, citizen and producer, inventor of techniques and creative dreamer’. ‘Learning to be’ may therefore be interpreted in one way as learning to behuman, through acquisition of knowledge, skills and values conducive to personality development in its intellectual, moral, cultural and physical dimensions. This implies a curriculum aiming at cultivating qualities of imagination and creativity; acquiring universally shared human values; developing aspe! cts of a person’s potential: memory, reasoning, aesthetic sense, physical capacity and communication/social skills; developing critical thinking and exercising independent judgment; and developing personal commitment and responsibility.

It is important to note that the four pillars of learning relate to all phases and areas of education. They support and interpenetrate one another and should therefore be applied as basic principles, cross-cutting themes and generic competences for integration in and across subject areas or learning domains.

    Thanks...

How can we learn to live together in the ‘global village’ if we cannot manage to live together in the communities to which we naturally belong – the nation, the region, the city, the village, the neighborhood? Do we want to make a contribution to public life and can we do so?

My answer is the point of pillars so enough to be Al-Insan Al-Kamil. Because:

    1. Learning to know : this pillar explain as basic, at the first the human must to know what he want to do, maybe will command to be al-insan al-kamil. Then, what human to know? Learn about who was created the human and what purposes he did. The answer will be found if we study religion.

    2. Learn to do : In this pillar, Al-Farabi was invited to act or do something. For the first, the objection from that is you can do, moreover it's something beneficence. About the result, it's the secondly because everything will be happen. Maybe it mean something good or bad.

    3. Learn to live together : this pillar talk about the important thing. Why?? the basis of human is who can't be alive alone or the human is social creature. In this way, we can produce the next generation who can change the world. We have make right communication.

    4. Learn to be : in my mind, this pillar invite us to be the self. Why? we aren't the other. We must have a right think, If you be someone because you was hearing him, it same you have been plagiarism but not directly. So, what are different you and the someone have make a change in yourself. We must study, u're self.

In our life, there are four pilars of education.
1). Learning to know. (2). Learning to do. (3). Learningto live together. (4).Learning to be.
I will try for the first point:
    1. Learning to know
Learning to find an activity to acquire, deepen and utilize knowledge. Therefore, learning to learn should continue, even upgraded to knowing much (trying to know a lot).
    2. Learning to do
Learning at work is the study or practice to master the skills and job competence. arena demands of work in industry and the company continues to increase, then the individuals who will enter and / or has entered the world of industry and company needs to continue working. They must be capable of doing much (trying to work a lot).
    3. Learning to live together
In the global life, we not only interact with diverse ethnic groups, regions, cultures, races, religions, expertise, and professional, but living together and working with various groups, and they have much to learn to live together, being sociable (trying to build living together).
    4. Learning to be
development of global life, not just sue the development of overall human and whole, but also a superior human being. For that they should try a lot of excellence (being excellence). The advantage is strengthened by a strong moral. Global Individuals should seek a strong moral or being morally.

According to UNESCO there are 4 pillars of education, and Where the four pillars of education are combining the objectives of IQ, EQ and SQ. there are:
    1.Learning to know
implicit learning is meaningful to know:
life long education and Learn how to learn, Learning to know (learning to know) in the process is not simply knowing what is meaningful but also at the same time knowing what is not useful for life.
2.Learning to do: Learning to apply knowledge, work together as a team, learn to solve problems in various situations, learning to work or apply the science. In learning to do have a two skills Hard Skill is skills that are physically demanding and Soft Skill is skills that are intellectually demanding
3.learning to be: Mastery of knowledge and skills is part of the process of being yourself (learning to be). Learning to behave in accordance with the norms and rules prevailing in the society, learn to become successful, is really a process of achieving self-actualization. This is closely related to their talents, interests, physical, psychological, personal typology of human and the environment.
4.learning to live together: understand about learn and appreciate other people, and socialize with other people. The habit of living together, mutual respect, open, giving and receiving need to be developed.Conditions like these that allow the growth of mutual understanding among racial, ethnic, and religious.
My point of view, the four pillars according UNESCO is enough,if we are of human can be actualisation in our life so we will be perfect human being being (al-insan al-kamil),beacause are combining object of IQ,EQ,and SQ.

1.Learning to know: in this life the first thing we should do is learn because learning is a process of maturation of a person from not knowing to knowing. The main purpose of learning is how we learn after that we know what we learn and the knowledge that becomes the handle us to live.
2.Learning to do: learning to do, the point is how in this life we can provide the benefits of what we learn to others. Despite what we give just a little but at least useful for others than we don’t give anything.
3.Learning to live together: we live in this world is not only alone because we are social creatures. Where we can not live without the support of others and need each other. So, by living together it can learn us to appreciate each other, honor and cherish.
4.Learning to be: the point is we must believe in the capabilities that exist in ourselves and be ourselves. Do not ever be that desperate person or people who hide behind others. Learn us be who we are.

From my point of view, report to UNESCO there are four pillars to reach perfect human being. namely,
    1) learning to know is first we have to learn one thing to know the intent and purpose of it.
    2) learning to do is Learning how one can study a problem and then to solve the problem.
    3) learning to live together is we live in this world is not alone but in groups, we can not live without the help and encouragement from others.
    4) learning to be is we must believe in our own ability and not have to be someone else to be better.
I thought, if the four pillars are applied in everyday life does not mean we become perfect human beings but with us to apply the fourth pillar in everyday life teaches us to do a better and more useful.
in this case, Al Faraby and UNESCO have the same views on how to be human is perfect.

In my opinion these 4 pillars have been able to achieve the perfect human for Applying the pillars.
As the first pillar of education above, "Learning to know", how students can increase knowledge as much as possible, have to know about new information,or discover something new. Beside that Learning to know is one of activity to acquisition,to know and benefits for all things.
The second pillars, "Learning To Do", It is emphasizes the application of knowledge.People have to do what they have learned before. This training has to evolve and become more than just a means of imparting knowledge needed to do a more or less routine job.
Third,"learning to live together", we are human being; we need a good relationship with others. Because of it, we have to learn to live together with others. we have to know that Everyone has idea. Our ideas are different, so it can be better if we live together because we can share our ideas.
The last pillars, learning to be, how to become a perfect human being, the education process is to gain knowledge so that people can become better people. This learning process is personality developments that embody the intellectual, emotion, social, physic and even moral that can make us compete with other people and to fulfill the perfect human being.

next, in my mind these four pillars of UNESCO is enough. Although just four but I think it is the important point to make the perfect human. But don't forget the application because it is the most important to be the perfect human.

The four pillars of learning are fundamental principles for reshaping education:
Learning to know: to provide the cognitive tools required to better comprehend the world and its complexities, and to provide an appropriate and adequate foundation for future learning.
Learning to do: to provide the skills that would enable individuals to effectively participate in the global economy and society.
Learning to be: to provide self analytical and social skills to enable individuals to develop to their fullest potential psycho-socially, affectively as well as physically, for a all-round ‘complete person.
Learning to live together: to expose individuals to the values implicit within human rights, democratic principles, intercultural understanding and respect and peace at all levels of society and human relationships to enable individuals and societies to live in peace and harmony.
As we are human being, we are demanded to get education and the four pillars should be followed then we can reach as perfect human (al insan al kamil). So, in my mind the four pillars reported by UNESCO are enough as they have involved all of what we want to achieve in this life in order we can live happily in both the world and the hereafter.

    Well,,,
From UNESCO for the Twenty-first century that education throughout life is based upon our four pillars. they are learning to know, learnig to do, learning to live together, and learning to be.
From my point of view, these are a good perspective. firstly, learning to know means that as a human being we must know first before doing somethimg. so we must know what we are going to do. we have to learn and understand all of around us. like the education or about the sciences or like our environment. The second is learning to do. It means that we should do what we have to do. after knowing and understanding about education we must applicate our knowledge for the other people. The third is learning to live together means that the education should lead the human to avoid conflict among them and peacefully resolve it or we must meke a good interaction and relation to the other people.because through education we are taught the importance of living together and minimizing any conflict that maybe happen to us. And the last is learning to be means that all of us should receive that education helps us to develop our own independent and critical way of thinking so that we can make up our own minds on the best course of action in the different circumtances in our lives.
    That's all from me,,,

I think,,The Four Pillars of Education, The Treasure Within, are the basis of the whole report. These four pillars of knowledge cannot be anchored solely in one phase in a person's life or in a single place. There is a need to re-think when in people's lives education should be provided, and the fields that such education should cover. The periods and fields should complement each other and be interrelated in such a way that all people can get the most out of their own specific educational environment all through their lives.
Education takes place throughout life in many forms, none of which ought to be exclusive. We must start to think about education in a more all-encompassing fashion. Likewise the four pillars cannot stand alone. Without all the four pillars education would not be the same.

From the pillars I’ve read, the thought or perspective of UNESCO is suitable for human being in achieving a name as perfect human or get a comfortable life wether in this world or in the day after.
These are the four pillars of learning:
Learning to know: lays the foundations of learning throughout life. This pillar refers to the basic knowledge that we need to be able to understand our environment and to live in dignity. It is also about arousing curiosity, allowing us to experience the pleasures of research and discovery.
Learning to do: refers to the acquisition of practical skills, but also to an aptitude for teamwork and initiative, and a readiness to take risks. As such, this pillar is about the competence of putting what we have learned into practice so as to act creatively on our environment.
Learning to live together: is the pillar that the UNESCO Commission emphasizes more than any other. It refers first of all to developing an understanding of others through dialogue—leading to empathy, respect, and appreciation. Yet if we are to understand others, we must first know ourselves. Learning to live together is thus also about recognizing our growing interdependence, about experiencing shared purposes, and about implementing common projects and a joint future. Only then will it be possible to manage the inevitable conflicts in a peaceful way.
Learning to be: is founded on the fundamental principle that education needs to contribute to the all-round development of each individual. This pillar deals with the broadening of care for each aspect of the personality. It deals with giving us the freedom of thought, feeling, and imagination that we need to act more independently, with more insight, more critically, and more responsibly.
With human knowledge has transformed themselves into the most glorious creature in the world. And with the knowledge of God also believe human nature to keep this well, so they earned the nickname khalifatullah fi al-ard. Because humans are creatures of God's most perfect creation then God requires us to get an education so that we can lead this world toward a better and perfect.

From my point of view what UNESCO said that learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. I think that is more than enough and also it is very good. And if we want to relate about philosophy of Al-Farabi that individual is prepared from an early age to become a member of society, to achieve his own level of perfection, and thus to reach the goal for which he was created. But sometime in the reality we as the human being did not do something to reach it. So what the content of learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be is not reached. Because there is no implementation. It just a system theory. Athough we add again some pillars. Therefore if the people want to reach perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil) so they have to practice the pillars.

From my point of view .I agree that the four pillars of education can reach perfect human being .
    Why,,,? Because:
-Learning to know, so as to acquire a taste for learning
throughout life and for understanding the world.
    - Learning to do, so as to be able to deal with many situations,
and be an actor as well as a thinker.
    - Learning to be, so as to better develop one's personality and be
able to act with greater autonomy, judgement and personal
    responsibility.
•-Learning to live together, so as to develop an understanding of

Four Pillars of Education proposed UNESCO, the four pillars are: Learning to know (Mastery of a deep and broad to specific disciplines, including Learning to How), Learning to do (Learn how to apply science, working together as a team, learn to solve problems in various situations), Learning to be (learning to be independent, be the person responsible for realizing the common goal), Learning to live together (Learning to understand and appreciate other people, their history and values of his religion).

I think the four pillars are already complete and we can see, the pillars of education are indeed designed with a very good and with a very good goal too, but keep in mind, there are still many aspects of the barrier in the implementation of the pillars of education, call it a lack of HR teacher who is really "qualified", the difference in the mindset of each community or region in view of the importance of education, then minimal amenities will greatly hinder the progress of teaching and learning, and other constraints.

I totality agree to those statements says learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. It’s the best philosophical system education. When we understand them well, we will find the goals of education. Based on the purpose of education of Indonesia that is enclever nation . We should analyze this statement, to make nation clever is consists of learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be. It’s complete one.
Talking about learning to know, I can say “Absolutely”. To learn to know is one key to recognize what specific thing we master. We study something to know how knowledge to apply in our life, we can’t deny that knowledge is not used in the fact life is noting to do or useless. So, to appreciate ours is applying. Knowledge can solve any problem in our life. By learning, we may also how to be socialist in our daily activity, understanding another people. This is a good topic to discuss, because after we read the text, we know that what we have to do to be a perfect human being, but if we talk about the “perfect” I am sure that only God is the perfect one in this world.
    Well…..
The text above tells about Al-Farabi’s perspectives about knowledge and there is report to UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century that education throughout life is based upon four pillars, there are learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be.
In my opinion, they are great basic and principles in improving human’s capability and capacity through education for being al-insan al-kamil.
    1. Learning to know means the people in this world have to learn about everything in their live because if they do not know about everything in their life impossible they can pass their life well. For example, if we want to know about how to make a plane so we must study hard and try search more information about it.
    2. Learning to do, it means if we have known about what we had studied, the next step is applying it in our activity. For example, we are as Moslem had known about the contents of Al Qur’an we must apply it in our live.
    3. Learning to live together mean the education should led the human being so that there is not conflict always happens. With learning also, the people can know which one is good and which one is bad.
    4. Learning to be is the people that learning seriously to get their ambition. Study hard, can bring us to be a master in our life.
The four pillars of education according to UNESCO have been able to be a good human being, if we can apply these in our life. These pillars also has a relationship and continuous. We have to apply learning to know first then, apply learning to do, next apply learning to live together, and the last learning to be. This means that UNESCO and Al Farabi had the same thought in terms of realizing to be a good man.So, let practice these pillars to be Al-insani Al-kamil

In my point of view, the four pilars of educatin so enough to be perfect human being.
    1. Learning to know relating to the acquisition, mastery and utilizationof information. knowledge acquisition efforts, through reading, Internet access, ask, follow the lectures, etc.. Knowledge mastered through memorization, Samba, discussion, problem solving exercises, application, etc. Knowledge utilized to achieve various objectives: expandinghorizons, enhance skills, solve problems, learn more, etc..
    2. Learning to do closely related to learning to learn, becauseknowledge of the underlying action. Learning to do is the study or practice to master the skills andcompetencies of work so that we can competent with the other.
    3. Learning to be Mastery of knowledge and skills is part of the process of being yourself (learning to be). Being a self-defined as the process of understanding the needs and identity. Learning to behave in accordance with the norms and rulesprevailing in the society, learn to become successful, is really aprocess of achieving self-actualization
    4. Learning to live together is Learning to understand and appreciate other people, on this fourthpillar, the habit of living together, mutual respect, open, give and take we need to develop because of conditions like these that allowthe growth of mutual understanding among racial, ethnic, andreligious and social provision in the community.

I think the four pillars have been quite for us to reach perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil). Why???, because from the article there is statement said that “The goal of education is to lead the individual to perfection since the human being was created for this purpose, and the goal of humanity's existence in this world is to attain happiness, which is the highest perfection—the absolute good” and according to al-Farabi, “The perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil), thought al-Farabi, is the one who has obtained theoretical virtue—thus completing his intellectual knowledge—and has acquired practical moral virtues—thus becoming perfect in his moral behaviour. Then, crowning these theoretical and moral virtues with effective power, they are anchored in the souls of individual members of the community when they assume the responsibility of political leadership, thus becoming role models for other people”. So I think the four pillars of education have important relation with the goal of education in the human life.
For the first, learning to know, from the sentence we have to realize that actually we are guided to study, so we can get knowledge, and know environment around us.
The second, learning to do I think after we got the knowledge, we must know the skills or abilities we have and after that we must develop the skills that we have.
The third, learning to life together, from the sentence I think one place to apply the knowledge we've gained is, in social life, because as we know that human beings are social beings, that can not live without help from others, so people are required to complement each other.
The fourth learning to be, from the sentence we are guided to know our self. Because by being our self it means a process of understanding the needs and identity. So that we can behave in accordance with prevailing norms and kaidah in public life. So I think we can reach perfect human being (al-insan al-kamil) from the four pillars UNESCO if we can balance the four of them.

From my point of view, four pillars of UNESCO can reach perfect human being. As the first pillars "Learn to know" means that as the human hoped look for knowledge and have good way to get it. This pillar explain that the human must know what they want to do.
the second "Learn to do", explain how to apply our knowledge that we have learn before, and also explain how to get skill.
The third, "Learn to live together", means that as the human we must make good relationship with others. also, we can share our ideas or our knowledge if we live together. remember that we are as the social creature.
the four pillar, "Learn to be", means that we effort to be a good person. also we can get happiness and goodness by the combines of knowledge and behaviour.

After I heard the question about whether the four pillars of UNESCO that is learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be can achieve a perfect man, I agree with this statement. Why?? Because, I think those pillars related to the views of al-Farabi who said that the perfect man is one who has obtained a complete theory of virtue-so-intellectual knowledge and have obtained a practical-moral virtues to become perfect in his moral behavior. It can be seen from the explanation of the four pillars are:
The first, learning to know that assumes we develop our powers of concentration, memory and thinking. We have to learn everything around us, to seek knowledge about something that we look or we find. This study focuses on the concept of basic knowledge and public with the opportunity to work on specific areas continue to grow that in accordance with changes in science and technology and social activities-ekonomi.learning to know is contained in the meaning of learning how to learn . In this case involves three aspects: what is learned, how I can get people to know and learn, and WHO do learn.
Second, learning to do refer to the concept of human complement learning with thinking skills, initiative, and sense honed. The concept is linked to the world of work, namely to help people prepare for life (work). Conceptual learning exercise together with the concept of learning by doing or learning by doing or working.
Third, learning to live together refer to the concept of human learning skills complement with diverse knowledge, skills, attitudes and values and competence of subjects to learn to participate and cooperate in various activities. With the concept of learning to live together are expected to resolve conflicts that arise in a society that pluralistime and global life where there are differences in culture, geography, and ethnicity and so forth.
Fourth, learning to be refer to the concept of learning refers to the maximum development of human potential to actualize themselves with freedom and wisdom to make choices and with a strong sense of responsibility. By learning to be a mean man must know who he is, know the weaknesses and strengths to build a whole person again and again.
From this explanation, I can say that the four pillars have tight relation between the concepts of Al-Farabi like: discipline (ta'dib), correction/assessment (taqwim), training (tahdhib), guidance (tasdid), instruction (ta'lim), exercise or learning (irtiyad), and upbringing or education (tarbiyah). Those pillars are to be applied in human’s life for reaching perfect human being. For me, they are great basis and principles in improving human’s capability and capacity through education for being al-insan al-kamil. And those pillars correlated with concept of islam education is to seek pleasure of Allah SWT. By education, individuals are expected to be born-indidivu good, virtuous, qualified, so useful to himself, his family, his community, his country and mankind as a whole. I think like that.

Learning to live together means the application of what we know in social live, and the last, learning to be, is the result of all conceptions having done. That’s great. Yet, it’ll be better to simplify them into two parts only, learning to know and learning to do that can be the representative of them.

Talking about learning, it’s the topic that never have ending, why?? Because the people who learn have different purpose what they want to get by learned. There is no limit to learn and to know something. Based on UNESCO have four pillars that are learning to know is learning about something that we want to know and can be useful in our life, learn to increase our mind and skill. Learning to do is learning to get knowledge and use it in practice, develop our competence and personal qualities. Learning to apply in our daily activities. Learning to live together is learning to share with the other people, as the basic to associate with the environment. Understand the role of personal and to other people to create good relation. Learning to be is learning to be the person who can responsible to his self. Be a smart people so he can do or create something not only for his self but to people who need it.
    Thanks a lot !!!!!

Talking about the pillars of education which must be applied, I strongly disagree whit those pillars. Yet actually they need applaying too but there must be the first we need to change as the pillars of those pillars mentioned in the blog, in which many people and scholls ignore them especially nowdays. education system desperately needs help to improve its falling quality. Especially in the era of globalization, there is a systemic breakdown which causing the lack of competitiveness among Indonesian students compare to other South East Asia’s countries like Singapore, Malaysia or even Thailand. The quality need to be achieved in order to maintain a progressivity in Indonesia is not showing any improvement yet. Some students in Indonesia tend to see school as an obligation they must get through in order to get a ‘normal’ life. There is an urgent need for solutions towards this long-neglected problem. What Indonesian need now are three pillars of education change which are curriculum change, change in the perception of students toward school and improving teachers’ quality.
Second thing need to do is to change students paradigm about what school is all about. A lot of students who already got the opportunity find that school is just an obligation, a search for an A and a place to hang out with friends. In order to do so, it is undeniably important to improve the quality of teachers themselves. Teachers all over Indonesia need to have trainings with national accepted standard. Underperformance teachers judge by panel of judges from experts will be trained to achieve certain standard. After the training being completed, teachers that already pass will obtain certificate stated that they are accepted as Indonesia’s Certified Teacher. Besides the training, another important aspect need to be considered is the teacher’s salary. Even though for many teachers, money is not the motivation, but raising the salary can show that government of Indonesia is appreciating their effort to build this nation.

I think, the philosophy of Al-Farabi is enough to be a perfect one after achieving happiness, and the step is also good. But in my point, the philosophy from Al-Farabi or from others is not important actually, but the most important is the application of those in daily life. The people are able to distinguish about what is valuable and what is bad. From the first pillar, learning to know is our obligation as the human. A number of people also value that it is their need. The second, learning to do is the next step after knowing that knowledge because knowledge without application like a tree without a fruit. Learning to be as the third stage is people desirability to be what they want. The last stage, learning life together is the most important. All what we have got will be applied in the middle of the society. Are we good person or bad person will be valued and the society will give price for that.

from my point of view about al farabis'perspective, the fourth pilars has enough because that pilars has covered all aspects perfection live.
the first pillar is learning to know:how the human to get knowledge to know all aspects our live(kognitif).
the second pillar is learning to do:how to get skill to improve in dayly live.
the third pillar is learning to live together:this point is how to apply the first and the second pillar in invironment(social).
the last pillar is learning to be:how to get personality after getting the pillars before.

but in my mind, the third pillar should be the last because it covered all of the other pillar.

I think that my opinion about al farabi's perspective...thanks.

In my mind, the fourth part of UNESCO, told to us that’s enough to became a perfect human because
    • Learning to know it means a how to get and deept a function of a learning
    • Learning to do it mean’s how to practice to know our hand, craft a working competition.
    • Learning ti live together it mean’s how to learning by understanding a people, because no body able to live withouth others helped.
    • Learning to be it mean’s how to learning to become other’s or knowing ourself.
So those enough to be perfect human in this world it depens on the applying of theories.

in my point of view, those pillars enough to reach perfect human being because the four pillars bounds each other, can't be separated or stand alone. learning to know, basically we among study/learn to know those knowledge.after we know, we must apply it in our life.because in study everything, we will easy to remember the knowledge, when we do or practice in our life. for example, you are taught by your teacher only the theory about how to do prayer, without practice it will be non-sense.just the same with if you learn english and you never use it in your daily life, never speak up with the foreigners, non-sense.however you know everything aabout how to make good conversation, how to speak with them, withou practice and do it may be you wil be loose your knowledge.
learning to live together, as we know that as human being we can't life alone in this world. we need socialzation with the other people. we need to share problem, knowledge, etc. we can find it from the educational process.how to socialization with our environment, how to communicate with the other people.
learning to be, from the education process in he future what we will be...??? acorrding to your talent and interest which we have....

According to me, the four pillars of UNISCO have a big potential to construct the perfect human being for everyone that want to the welfare, worthiness, and comfort in their life, on the other hand, the pillars just construct the kindness of worldly life or vertical life (hablu minannasi). Actually, we could make the four pillars as stock to face the worldly and to account in the afterlife then the balance, which is between the vertical life (hablu minananasi) and horizontal life(hablu manallahi), will be created but one condition, which has to be fulfilled, is FAITH. Perhaps, there is nothing if I add one pillar that is “LEARN TO FAITH”.
I think, it is same point with al-farabi’s philosophical in education. He focuses to social live and all about worldly life but I agree to al-farabi’s philosophical but it need FAITH to make it useful in the life and afterlife.

My point of view about text above,I have same opinion if the education is everything that must we have in our life.Although actually for the first just like a theory but after we have to know and understand about it,we will to try apply and will be useful.
it same with base on the UNESCO if the learning to know..to be .. live together..and learning to do.
after that,,from the theory will create some method and techniques to can apply be some that usefulness.so,the people will be perfect by practice.base on the knowledge so the people will be make like discovery by the education that can useful for live together.in fact in the al-quran ask me to get education during we live and still can do it.but must base on the rules in islam.
the last, education is everything for me !!!

Education throughout life is based on four pillars: (1). Learning to know. (2). Learning to do. (3). Learning to live together. (4).Learning to be. Basically, these pillars education are enough to reach perfect human being.

Actually education takes place through life in many forms, none of which ought to be exclusive. we must start to think about education in a more all encompassing style. the four pillar also can not stand alone without all the four pillars education would not be the same. so each of four pillars has to support each other
